This episode looks at John Constable’s The Haywain, currently in a special focus exhibition at The National Gallery in London, to celebrate its 200th anniversary.
Visited the exhibition today, listened to the podcast afterwards which provides a very illuminating commentary. 'The Hay Wain' is a painting you revisit or go back to two or three times.
Incidentally, I went to the Van Gogh exhibition beforehand for a second time. Would be interested to get your thoughts on that. I felt it should be a 'summer blockbuster' given the preponderance of orange and yellow. It's a striking, visceral exhibition worth more than one visit.
